CHICAGO, IL - On Saturday, June 4, 2011, the national 13.1 Marathon® Series produced by US Road Sports & Entertainment Group made its way to the Windy City for the 3rd year in a row, bringing out over 4,400 runners to Chicago’s lakefront. The half-marathon started and ended at the South Shore Cultural Center, the site of the climactic closing concert in the movie “Blues Brothers.”

Karhu 5K challenged runners to "Beat the Karhu Bear" in Flushing Meadows New York. Six runners win free running shoes!
March 19, 2011 – Karhu means ‘bear’ in Finnish and today the bear came out of hibernation to challenge racers to beat him across the finish line during the Run Wild 5k in Atlanta.
The Karhu Bear finished in tenth place out of 842 runners with a time of 20:02. The runners who beat him all received a free pair of Karhu running shoes and “I beat the bear” t-shirt for their achievement in “Beating the Karhu Bear”.
The Run Wild 5k challenge is part of the Publix Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon weekend festivities.

Karhu the Bear placed 99th with a time of 25:32. Top 3 Male finishers were: Victor Del Rosso 17:33; Dutch Hendricks 18:53; Horst Eidenmuller 18:59. Top 3 Female finishers were: Christy Espinoza 18:04; Meagan Nedlo 18:09; Sadie Wells 20:09.
